  1. I believe that Kip was responsible for this incident because he is the one who pulled the trigger. HOwever, there were many signs leading to this. Kip had ordered a book about making bombs and even did a presentation of how to make a bomb during his speech class. He was never punished for this and no one took it into investigation. I think the kids he hung out with and his learning disabilities played a big role in this too. I think the authority figures in Kips life should have tried harder to know more of what he was like, such as his teachers and parents. Although, his parents did put him into therapy, however it wasnt enough. I think the biggest sign that Kip was a danger was by him bringing a gun to school and getting arrested. That night he killed his parents, and the next day he came back into school and started shooting. I believe tradejies like this happen when people are bullied to a certain extent, have their own personal problems, or start hanging out with the wrong crowd. It could be prevented by people stepping in when things get taken too far. If something doesn't work, such as thereapy, then you have to try something else until you find something that can make the individual stable. I think an incident like this could happen anywhere. It all depends on the person, their lifestyle and how they are treated.

  2. Ultimately, Kip is the one responsible for this incident. He is the only one who decided to shoot his parents/classmates and kill them. But there are many ways this horrible act could have been prevented. First of all, Kip's parents should have never allowed their son to gain acces to the various weapons they had in the house. How can his dad have allowed a son to not only find the gun, but retreive a pistol the second time after he had already been expelled for bringing them to school? This shows how careless and irresponsible the parents were in this situation that lead to their fatalities. The parents needed to know more about their son's personality, how he was feeling, and taken his getting help more seriously. Also, people at school should have stepped in to help Kip with his personal problems if he was writing threatening things on his school papers and journals, especially when the teachers had seen some of these! I'd like to think a similar incident could never happen at PRHS, but anything is possible. However, I think it far less likely because we more sheltered(for the better) than places like Oregon.

  4. 1. Kip Kinkel is responsible for the incident. He was the one that took the gun and shot his parents and fellow students. Nobody told him to do it, and yet for some strange reason he felt that since HE was worthless HE should kill ANYONE else except HIMSELF! I think that society is too afraid of innocence being bad that they will look the other way and point their finger at other things that caused a child to act the way they did (such as killing people). The media is often blamed because showing violence is making "kids kill" or parents are blamed because they didn't monitor/take care of their kids well enough, but the truth is the kid knows what they are doing is wrong. Yet we insist on babying them because of this innocence factor. I believe that everybody is born with common sense, and knows well enough at ANY age that killing is wrong. Kip Kinkel is not crazy in my eyes, just extremely disturbed; to let someone like him out in society would be wrong. He's to blame for the incident and should serve his time for his actions.
    2. Prevention of tragedies like this one is impossible. I'd like to believe that all people are good, but sometimes it takes one thing to make a person snap. People are weird and tend to overreact a lot, we can't control a human’s behavior any more then we can control the weather. Kip is a prime example that even a kid that is brought up in a normal nurtured world can lose it, and do something irrational and stupid. This makes me think of nature vs. nurture...does it really matter in the end?
    3. I think that something like this can definitely happen at PRHS (although I'd rather it didn't). Like I said people are weird, and if we were to believe that our little New Hampshire community is safe from such atrocities is wrong. People snap from the tiniest things, a kid picking up a gun and choosing to shoot innocent people wouldn't be the first time. How many of the people in those communities thought that what happened at their school could never happen? I'm not blinded from the truth; a kid could do this at our school.

  5. 1. Who is responsible for this incident? INCIDENT!? The kid opened fire on a school. How is he not responsible. Sure, his parents could have done something more, but he was already in therapy. His teachers shouldn't be responsible. They are their to teach and guide, but they never guided him to shoot his peers. it is almost completely his fault. He had mental problems and was instable and that is not a cause of people's bullying or ignorance of him, that is a genetic issue. Society as a whole takes this Freudian stuff too seriously. It wasn't anybody in his enviroment that is forced this, it was him.
    2. Theoretically, more counseling could have prevented this. Perhaps if his parents had sent him to some kind of special school. Overall, however, I don't think this could have really been prevented.
    3. Sure, something like this could happen here. People like Kip are not geographically tied to one location. People everywhere are mentally instable. It's a real possibility.

  7. 1) i think that both kip and his parents could be reponsiable for this incident. Because the only person who is responsiable for his actions is himself, he was the one who decided to kill his parents. in a way though his parents could have started to notice the signs that he was going down the wong path by hanging out with the wrong types of people and te stuff he was looking up. they could have sat him down and asked him what was wrong.
2)Tragedies like this usually can be pretty hard to prevent sometimes even immposiable. when a young child feels like he hates humans and wants to kill there is something wrong. hearing voices inside his head telling him to do things is hard to fix. even counciling cant always help. Its a psyactric disorder that can be diagnoticed but not always treateable. Maybe more counceling would have helped.
3)yes a similar incident could happen here at PRHS, it could happen anywhere. its usually the people you don't expect, they are the ones who try to hide it. The one thing though that you should learn though is to try to make friends with everyone because you don't no the day that, that one person could snap and shot everyone except you because you were nice to them.

  8. 1. He is the one to blame for the most part since he did pull the trigger but so is everyone that made him feel the way he did is also responsible. The parents are a little bit responsible too for raising him to be like this.

    2. The parents couldve raised him better and all the kids at school could've helped him out by being a little nice to him and not treat him like he doesn't exist.

    3. Yes it can happen anywhere really it's just the odds of it happening is what make places like NH or Virgina to say "it would never happen here."

  9. 1. Ultimately Kip Kinkel is responsible for the “incident” as he is the one who pulled the trigger and killed his peers and his parents. It could be argued that society is to blame for the way Kip was due to all the violence and anger he was exposed to every single in school and on television. His parents are also partially to blame as they were the ones who were raising him and responsible for teaching him the differences between “right” and “wrong”, some could say they were trying the best they could, however, I disagree because one does not buy his son a gun when he knows he is an angry depressed boy who has tried to make bombs in the past and been arrested and suspended for violent behavior—that is just a poor parental choice.
    2. I believe there are many possible ways that this “incident” could have been prevented only if people would have acted on the many warning signs that Kip put out. His teachers should have seen something wrong with the fact he was writing “I will hunt you down and put a hole in your head. With explosives. You hear me. Power to the shampoo. RIP. You must die.” On his school papers and taken some type of action, even if it was just sending him to guidence or calling home and informing his parents of what he was writing, perhaps if they knew he was writing such things they wouldn’t have bought him guns.
    3. Everyone would like to believe that something like Kip did could not happen here, but the truth is it could happen anywhere with anyone because you never know what is going on in people’s heads .

  10. 1. Kip is responsible, he is the one who pulled the trigger, I don't think there is any discussion on that question.

    2. People reaching out and talking to Kip may have helped, but who knows, if a person is crazy they are crazy. His parents maybe could have watched how he was acting a little better, but ultimately the whole situation was in his hands.

    3. Yes, a situation like this could happen here, give a crazy kid a weapon and it could happen anywhere.

  11. 1.Well obviously Kip is the one that is responsible for pulling the trigger, but i believe that what made him pull that trigger wasn't all his fault. Kip had mental issues no matter what anyone says, if you can kill your parents and shoot kids at school than you are not in your right mind. I definitly think that it was wrong and he should know right from wrong, but i also think that Kip should be in a mental institution.
2.These kinds of tragedies happen everyday for pointless and stupid reasons. Maybe all people need is a little more family attention. Also if your kid is obessed with bombs and guns and killing, then you shouldnt buy him like two guns. Kids should be watched better if they see these warning signs.
3.Yes, i do think that a situation like this could happen here at PRHS because this kind of thing could happen in any kid all across the world. It has nothing to do with where, it has to do with the kid and how there mind develops and also how they are raised.

  12. Kip is responsible for killing his parents and his fellow school mates. No one else is responsible for making Kip do this. His parents put him in therapy and tried to help him, but I do believe Kip did have some mental issues. He spoke about voices in his head and there were relatives that did have cases of mental illness. No person with a loving family wakes up one day and decides to kill his parents and school mates. I believe mental illness was a big factor in determining why he killed his parents and class mates. Many things could have been done to stop Kip from doing this, but you cannot always cover all the bases. His family did do the right thing by putting him counseling, but they should have not taken him off the medication. His sister said it was working fine and Kip was in the best state when she saw him last. The father should have also been smart enough not to buy his son a gun when he is in counseling because he is fascinated with guns and explosives, and is known to be angry and depressed. It is hard to cover it all because I think being killed by your son is the last thing you are going to think. I do believe this could happen in PRHS because this could happen anywhere. Crazy people are not located in just one area. Certain areas provoke stuff like this to happen. So something like this would be more likely in Philadelphia than Plymouth, but this instance could happen to any school.

  13. In the end Kip Kinkle is the one who is responsible for this incident. Yet he is not the only one who fueled the proverbial fire. The friends that Kip hung out with, to the dad purchasing him the handgun; all of this makes for an unstable teen to further in his actions and become more extreme. With all of the counseling that Kip was receiving, one would think that all of this would calm him down and stop his advancing anger. Kinkle knew what to say to keep the doctors from thinking he was too unstable, and that his condition could be treated with medication. In most cases it would. Kip Kinkle is just a name- a name that can be replaced with any other name. This can happen in any place at any time, with little actual warning. People can always suspect someone of being unstable, but until they actually committ the act, or explicitely confess to the act, there is no guarantee to the actions of another.

  14. 1. Personally I feel that a lot of people should be held responsible. It was the school’s fault for not doing more about the alarming quote on a Spanish work sheet. It was the parents fault for not seeing that things were worse than they seem. The parents should have done more than put him in counseling. Also if he was on medicine why did he stop? Kip is to blame partly because in his journal entries he knew there was something wrong with him that he couldn’t control, he should have asked for help. In all several people are to blame.

    2. It could have been prevented. If the teachers had done something about the comment on the work sheet then some of this could have been prevented. The parents both knew that he was having trouble because he was already involved with the police about a serious matter. Kip was on medicine for a reason and therefore should not have been taken off it or possibly should have been switched to another medicine. Several people are to blame.

    3. Like everyone else who has posted, I would like to hope that something like this couldn’t happen. The truth of the matter is that this is a crazy ever changing world where anything can happen. A person could be perfectly normal one day then days, weeks, or months, maybe even years go by and events pile up so much that they just sap, A human being can only take so much and can easily break under pressure. So yes, I believe that this could easily happen at PRHS.

  15. 1. Who is responsible for this incident?
It was all Kips fault, but when his sister and parents started to see him change to the worst, they should of got him some more help.
    2. What could be done to prevent tragedies like this one? Parents and friends could prevent it right away, when they see the major changes for the worst, can easy get help for the person.
    3. Could a similar incident happen here at PRHS? Why or why not? Okay, so I really wouldn't want this ever happen here, and wished it wouldn't happen anywhere eles. But, it could happen here, because, a person I know, well kind of know, took a knife to our school and threatened another student, and that he was going to kill them. The student for one, didn't get in any major trouble he only got a detention, because he had aspergers. Is this school trying to tell us that if you have a disorder that it doesn't matter what you do. What if the kid came in with a gun, and shot the other kid. I believe our school should have sent him away, a similar incident could happen here if we are just letting people get away with threats with knifes, and any other kinds of threats.

  16. 1. I think the parents were the most responsible for what happened. Kip should not have stopped taking the medicine and they should have taken him to therapist or something like that. Also Kip had such easy access to guns, he even bought one himself.
    2. Things that could have prevented something like this is well getting help which the parents basically already new he needed. If a child had problems like kip did and needed to take medicine they should stop taking the medicine and they should get checked up on. If teachers see people getting bullied in any way they should stop it.
    3. Yes, because there is always going to be someone that is not mentally healthy and may do something bad. Some people might get bullied or under to much stress and break.

  17. 1. i think the kid was reponsible he is the one who walked into the school and opened fire. i mean the parents couldnt of done much more he was in therapy
2.raising your kids better, better parenting, striaght up
3.i would think so, all it takes is a kid to be raised being beat and made fun of his wholelife till he or she cracks
